5K iMac Render Speeds

Thanks for the comparison, Tim. I have the same MacBook Pro, and have a new 5K iMac i7 waiting for me to pick it up. Anxious to give it a workout.

Edit: New Mac here. 5k iMac, 4gHz i7s, 512 gb SS drive.

16.54 sec! Zips right along!

I was wondering how well the new machine does under load, so rendered a 20 frame animation of said pig. There is a different behavior than I have seen on my MacBook Pro, and don't know if it is the machine, Yosemite, or the brand new rev of the app. The 20 frame render took 510.23 seconds, or about 25.51 seconds per frame. The render speed appeared the same from the first frame to the last, but now there seems to be about an 8 second waiting period between each frame.

file: pig.jas 4800 x 4800

2013 MacPro, 64GB RAM, 6-core (Intel Xeon E5 3.5 GHz)
2 x AMD FirePro D700

= 16.67 seconds

I believe Cheetah is not making use of the D700s yet?

@Zoohead - yours was the fastest so far right? I wonder whats going on on your system thats making the difference?

You may want to have a look at the decorated pig thread (check in the search box) which, in some 45 pages, provides a stack of ideas on textures and materials. Some can be downloaded but all provide a good idea on the power of the node tool in conjunction with surfaces and materials.

Im more interested in... Robsil's hackintosh specifications. He pipped the 5k iMac and came close to the 6 core Mac Pro. Kozleks new FakeSMC allows for great new hackintoshes without much effort.. Whats your i7 processor, is it overclocked?

My hackintosh config (take on http://www.tonymacx86.com) :

- Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7-TH
- Intel Core I7-4790k (not overclocked)
- Nvidia GeForce GTX770 - 4 Go GDDR5
- 16 Go (2 x 8 Go) DDR3 1333 Mhz
- Disque dur SSD 250 Go Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE250
- Disque dur Western Digital Black WD1003FZEX - 1 To
- Alimentation CORSAIR 650W RM650
- Boitier corsair Carbide Series 500R

I use ozmosis for OS X installation.
Very simple.

yes

yes osmosis is very interesting. I personally prefer intel branded motherboards, however quo's approach to booting osx is very good. Thank you for posting your hardware :)
