hex shadow problem...

hex shadow problem...

I'm working a nice copy of a well known chair doing some some tests and then go to a render of 2400 x 1800 pixel. ao radiosity default settings and only a .hdr for lighting.

All looking fine except for the shadow which has a hexagonal pattern !

Has anyone got any ideas on how to remedy this ?

Regards

Luke

Hi Luke.
Wow - that is strange. Would you allow me to have a look into the file (without the hdri) just to clear up some guesses? Just curious.
Honestly I think Martin should look into it.

With kindest regards

Dear Frank

I can, but I have sorted it out.

See settings. it was nothing to do with the resolution of the .hdr but more to do with adjusting the radiosity settings.

So problem solved.

But it's a useful lesson, for me at least.

Luke

Hi Luke.
Ok- fine. (But I´m still in doubt that these settings causes the phenomenon alone. Even a rmax at 256 won´t show up these patterns here. )

With kindest regards

Hi Luke,
that is indeed a quite strange artifact. I haven't seen it before. But it comes for sure from the irradiance cache. Playing around with the rmin and rmax properties would have been my first guess too.

I've downloaded your scene and will have a look into it once I have some time.

Bye,
Martin
