Tire Tread Displacement

Has anyone had any luck with the displacement modifier to produce a tire tread?

Yes, I believe so. I created seams and spread apart the core UVs onto the map.

I´m not really sure if you go with the displacement modifier for a simple tire; the example I linked costs about 3 mio polys for the head.

I would definitely go for "real" geometry in this case.
