Motorbikes

Motorbikes I've modelled in Cheetah 3D. The head, spokes and the
front fender of the HRC racer and the Vincent engine have been developed
from polygon models found on the web.

May be that, sooner or later, I will also learn the way to model some
half-decent fairing... :-]

I think you're still using some specular. The tires, for instance. Get rid of specular from every texture, replacing it with subtle, blurred reflections, and you'll be amazed at the results (looks particularly good on mostly dull objects like tires).

Made some experiments on tires with specular and reflection settings
but I'm still not satisfied with the results.
Keep in mind that brand new tires sometimes can have a semi-glossy finish.
Back to the drawing board :-] , thanks for the suggestions.

Try increasing the specular width for the tires.:wink:

I'm not saying tires shouldn't be glossy, I'm saying don't use specular to simulate gloss. Use blurred reflection.

Everything in this scene has specular set to black, including the tires. (From this thread: http://www.cheetah3d.de/forum/showthread.php?t=2228)

Specular highlights always look fake and wrong. They're simply faux light source reflections, but since they're based on the material and not the light (so if your material settings change, every "reflection" changes, whether it's supposed to be a big fat light source or a small hard one), they never look right, even if your scene contains nothing except light sources.

Hi,
very nice motorbikes. Great job :icon_thumbup: But you used a too low .jpg compression setting. So many jpg artifacts were introduced in your images.

Compressing a 1024x768 image into a 64kB image file is just demanding to much form the jpg algorithm. :wink:

I think they're all great!

-Slicks are shiny but they're only that colour with a bit of wear.

Here's an option, tyre tread. Feel free to use it, I've cut it in half because the file was too big so just mirror it.

Am I dreaming or what? Just when I was trying to figure out a way
to add a tread to the tires here it is, a racing compound, hi-performance,
sticky, rubber! Et voilà, a "Meshpigstone" racing tire!
Thanks Meshpig, with the help of the, slightly tweaked, settings suggested
by podperson it's almost perfect. (HDRI map not yet defined)

A few weeks later...

The 4 cyl. is still under construction. I don't like the silhouette of the crankcase of the engine,
don't like the flow of the shapes of the gas tank etc, etc, aaaaargh!
