I animated a movie projector with the film reels spinning. All was well when I rendered it, the wheel spin was smooth as just as the it showed in the Cheetah animation.
I made some changes to the reels and now when I render it, the motion is jerky. I am at a loss to explain this as I have not changed the render settings. Can anyone help?

Is it possible to have text appear as one material on top of a different material? In this thread, archie describes a great technique for putting text on top of an image texture. It's also easy to use the mix node to put text of a particular color on top of a material. But what if I already have two materials and wish to make text with one material appear on top of an object with another material?

Basically, if I could mix two materials the way I can mix a color with a material, I think I'd be in business. Anyone have any ideas? Am I overlooking something obvious?

been quite inactive on the forums lately but kept on using Cheetah3D for both fun (too little) and work... here's some icons I made recently, all of them are a combo of 3D renderings (C3D) and 2D post/compositing (PS CS5).
I know they're not the usual icon you would expect for a Mc app or plugin but I managed to create this kind of personal style that I enjoy doing and the clients (some friends of mine) do appreciate... (more to come)

A few of you will remember Rustboy, the one man project from Brian Taylor in the early 2000s. From what I remember Brian was largely using Infini-d to produce the 3d elements and even when I look at them now, over 10 years later, they're impressive renders to say the least.

http://www.rustboy.com/other/desktops/rain800.jpg

So I guess my question is how capable is Cheetah in comparison to what Infini-d was when it still existed? (I know it sort of lives on in the form of Cararra now but it seems to have a different purpose). I know Infini-d wasn't one of the high end apps at the time but looking at the rustboy renders it seems to have some pretty complex stuff for the time (fire? volumetric lighting, animated textures/bumps etc etc). Or was it effectively a case of Brian knowing Infini-d so well that he simply had very effective workarounds for any shortcomings that it had?
