Hardware issue?

Hi! Lately my/my dads mac have been acting weird. When you`re working with something, or even just not doing anything, the computer instantly shuts down (not like when you shut it off the normal way, it just turns off), it doesn`t even have to be any hard work for the computer. We reinstalled osx and i haven`t had any problems yet, but we`ve only been using it now for maybe 6 hours sense (misspelled, yes) the reinstallation. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Any help would be appriciated :icon_thumbup:

I'd try googling the problem being as specific as you can be and possibly restricting search results to site:apple.com/support.

Apple's support forums are pretty darn good.

What model of Mac is it? It could be a CPU cooling problem i.e. The cpu fan has stopped working. If the fan is working it could be the motherboards CPU thermal sensor acting up. As far as I know though you cannot access a Macs BIOS so no easy way to check that really unless you can download a software temperature monitor.

Anyhoo, download a software temperature sensor to start with and let us know what the readings are. Im sure they are available for Macs.
