Reverting to default UV

Hi all,

Let's say you have unwrapped a mesh, but for some reason need to revert to the original default UV. You can't undo–say you closed and opened the file again. Is there a way to revert to the default, original UV?

Thanks!

What were the default, original UVs?
I don't know, that is the problem. I'll give a couple of examples. One, create a sphere. Switch to the UV panel. It has a "default" UV mapping already, one that does not correspond to any of the mapping modes used by the UV mapper tool, or the Unwrap tool.

Second example, you create a cube and go and extrude here, move things around, add to the geometry. Switch to the UV panel. Every face is stretched to fit the UV area. In blender there is a UV mapping where you force every face into the shape of the UV area, so let's call it stretch to fit. Something like that.

So, the question is, how do you revert to that default mapping?

If what I'm asking is still unclear, I'll post some pics.

What I don´t get is what kind of texturing needs this.
If you want every quad (and it´s just working for quads) fill the UV space there´s a script for that called "Polygon UV editor".

Cheers
