Application icon

Hi,
I purchased a Cheetah3d and I'm very impressed with the new version. This product is amazing. I have used and the front version, but will now work with pleasure. The only thing that bothers me is the new App icon. Where is the lovely, charming step of Cheetah? The old icon was exactly in the style of MacOs until this goes more to the iPhone app icon. :)

well maybe it's because you're used to see that nice feline footprint in you dock... i felt the same some days ago (and changed the new icon for the old one) but then i had to keep my 4.7 too for a while (so every release must have his own icon) and now i really love the new one as much as the older...
to each his own preferences (and icon), BTW ;)

I wanted to add that I also do not like the new icon. While the new icon works for a forum avatar or an iphone app icon, it is not an attractive Dock Icon. The transparency around the cheetah footprint was much much nicer.

I am however enjoying Cheetah 5 so far. Its just that damn icon. It has to go! Perhaps I'll take the previous icon and over stamp the new one with the old.
 
I thought I would get used to it, but I still am not used to it.

BTW: I do have a crowded dock, and while you are correct that the high contrast icon does show up, it is not a significant improvement in visibility over the previous icon.

In my view the yellow cheetah face without the black surround would work well. All it needs is one black line (toon style) around the face for good contrast. That would be much more sophisticated than a blockish icon.
 
Yeah, I don't care for the new icon either (and I didn't like the old gray paw either), which is why I made this:

(I just realized I'd posted it in the beta forum, which most people can't see.)

That made my day. Thanks for posting it. I changed the icon immediately. This SHOULD be the cheetah icon in my opinion. Its much much better.
 
New Icon

Hey, I was getting a bit sick of the old icon so I made this one.
I basically just went around the old icon's face in photoshop.
In it's full size it looks a bit strange but I find on the dock it looks quite nice :) what do you think?

I'd love to see the robot cheetah adapted for use as the icon. It could even be set up so that at small sizes it's just the head (or eye even) and at larger it's the whole creature.

And to add to it: I think it would be outstanding to have the sound effects of a Cheetah roaring when one opened
the Cheetah 3D website. I’ve visited websites that have music upon opening their website.

And: Would it be possible to have the Cheetah sitting in a lower corner of the page then
when a person enters the website the Cheetah runs across the page to the upper corner opposite it’s original sitting position and sits up there.

The Twitter bird twits up and down the page so I imagine the Cheetah could run across the page.

I think that would be cutting edge. It certainly would be an impressive attention getter.
It would demonstrate at a glance that Cheetah is not just 3D modeling but animation also.

The Cheetah3D application icon is great as it is. I don't think it can be improved anymore. It's a true eye catcher and Frank did an amazing job with it. I also received lots of compliments for it. Even from marketing heavy weights. So I don't have any plans to change it.

The icon is elegant, a true eye catcher and can be easily remembered. Due to its high contrast (Yellow/Back, warning colors) it pops directly into your eyes. Just have a look into the Mac App Store graphics apps charts where you can find 180 icons on one page and you will see that the Cheetah3D icon is the icon which is the easiest to find.

Any modification would be a step backwards.

It certainly looks great in this company. I prefer my variation, but it's merely a tweak of Frank's excellent design. I definitely prefer the new design to the old paw.

The only other really good icon on the page is Silo's :) (I'm astonished Silo gets 4.5 stars given its lack of support for the last, what, eight years.)
