Animation to a movie file

I am not sure how to do this and I can not find anything in the tutorial. I saved my rendered movie but it is a ".tif"
How do I make a ".mov" for quicktime or something?

I think you've pressed the render button not the render animation button ,which looks like a roll of film, its next to the cow!!!

No I had clicked the animation. They both seem to do the same thing hen I have animation.

I mean the "save" says "save image"
