This is actualy an Advent Wreath but it holds candles none the less. I've been trying to get a flame that emitts light for a while now. Finally it's working, the key is to use the opacity bar (under texture color) and the alpha channel option (in the trasparancy section). For some resson the transparancy option dosen't work.

Anyway tell me what you think of this render.

Hi,
Both of your images look very nice.
Tybalt: I know this is not the goal of you image but the gold looks very realistic. The flame looks good but not perfect (I most likely couldn't of done better).

Manuelg: You should post your image on a new thread. It looks good though.

With all this talk about candles, I though I'd have a go at a candlelit scene myself. Below is the results of some playing around with settings and a bit of post PS work. (The final scene will have 3 candles, this is just a test image.)

Here's a candle I made. It even has a bit of fake SSS (some light passes through the top of the candle). Maybe it works for you. Make sure the textures are in the correct folder.

Regards,

Peter

PS. just saw Squareitrounds candles, they're great!! could you show the material settings please?

Hey thanks for the response, I'd like to see the texture settings for the flame and the wick, one other question is; were are the lights positioned in the scene? One sugetion for the second post is to change the color slightly more purple at the bottom. Over all very nice.

Thanks for the complements! :) The flame texture map below is slightly different from the rendered version, so it looks right from all angles. This new map requires a bit of post work to make the edges orange, but that's easy enough. The flame itself is a polygon object with a subdivision tag and the wick just a basic sweep with a UV tag. There's a yellow/orange light placed just above the tip of the flame, and a radiosity tag on the camera. Anyway, here's the settings I used - Hope this is of some use.
